In Residence at Sip & Sonder

The Cypher Sessions with Dr. Byron Young

Join Sonder Impact, Sip & Sonder, and DoingItWell.org as they present Dr. Byron Young’s “The Cypher Sessions,” where community, culture, and critical dialogue converge.

This month’s Cypher Session explores the relationships, tensions, beauty, and complexity between Black Americans and other members of the African Diaspora living in the U.S.—from West African, East African, South African, Afro Latinx, Caribbean communities and beyond.

  • How do shared histories of resistance unite us?

  • What cultural and generational misunderstandings keep us divided

  • And how can we move toward deeper solidarity, curiosity, and connection?

Join Dr. Byron Young and special guest Dr. Preston Igwe, UCLA resident psychiatrist and community thinker, as we unpack the unspoken layers of diasporic identity, pride, proximity to Blackness, and the internalized narratives we carry about each other.

What to bring:
- Your open mind
- Your phone for live polls & reflection
- Your experiences and questions
- Your love of music

This is a space to get real, get curious, and build bridges across the Diaspora.
Let’s reflect. Let’s relate. Let’s rise together.

Monthly at Sip & Sonder Inglewood for 3Q 2025.
