about the sessions

Month 1
07.16

Rooted in Purpose: The Heart-Centered Why Behind Doula Work

Focus: Purpose-driven care, birth justice, and showing up authentically

What to explore:

  • The emotional & ancestral calling of birthwork

  • Reframing doula work as activism, especially in Black and marginalized communities

  • Setting intentions and boundaries to avoid burnout

Month 2
08.13

Burnout & Boundaries: Caring for the Caregivers

Focus: Holding space for each other through exhaustion, grief, and growth

What to explore:

  • What burnout really looks like in birthwork (physical, emotional, spiritual)

  • The pressure to keep showing up even when depleted — especially for Black and brown doulas

  • Navigating compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, and overextension

  • How we actually rest and recover (not just bubble baths)

  • Community care as a tool for sustainability

Month 3
09.17

Holding What Hurts: Grief, Loss, and Honoring the Hard Parts of Birthwork

Focus: Grief, emotional weight, and collective healing

What to explore:

  • The unseen grief birth workers carry: miscarriage, stillbirth, loss of expected outcomes

  • Emotional toll of systemic harm and feeling unsupported in your work

  • The quiet losses, clients you couldn’t serve, stories that still linger, burnout as a form of loss

  • How we process grief in a field that demands constant presence

  • Creating space to honor both personal and collective loss

about sprouting kare

Sprouting Kare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing and empowering birthing people and birth workers.

We provide accessible doula support to families who might otherwise go without, and we help aspiring doulas, especially those from underrepresented communities, access education, resources, and guidance.
